I'll take a pint of milk & a modest OCEAN OF PETROLEUM please, if you would be so kind

With prices at the pumps becoming higher and higher with each day and no knowing how long this trend could continue, a hint of panic hangs in the air. Panic buying has led to a small number of filling stations being forced to close, with nothing to offer motorists queuing at the forecourt. Most have imposed a limit of 30 litres per transaction. They've been advised to report anyone attempting to exceed that limit. There's an obvious temptation to stockpile fuel. I'm pretty certain that you don't need to be reminded about why that might not actually be such a fantastic plan afterall. As much as you need fuel, you probably also quite enjoy having a house that's not been gutted by fire and potentially the horrific injuries associated with that. Similarly, It's unlikely that anyone would relish being the neighbour of that person who thinks they're "oh! so clever" for stowing enough petrol to recreate another piper-alpha. The last thing our emergency services need is a rash of calls to attend such horrible situations.
To defend against tragedies like these, the quantity of petrol that can lawfully (for now) be stored in/by a single household is 30 litres (max). Petrol is probably the single most flammable substance you can have in your home. Just those 30 litres stored improperly, could prove devastating. If you should decide to store petrol at home, it must be stored with care, as advised. Specifically, this means splitting the volume between 2 x 10 litre metal Jerry cans and 2 x 5 litre plastic Jerry cans.
These containers have the appropriate seals and safety vents, to prevent explosions from occuring when heated fuel expands in them. The safest place to store them will be a location that's not in direct sunlight and where the ambient temperature remains constant. They will also need to be appropriately labelled

Even with all that covered, ensure that kids and pets cannot reach them - they continue to astonish us with their potential for decimation within and of the home.
In the event that you feel the need to store over the ascribed 30 litres of petroleum, you're required to inform your local branch of the petroleum enforcement agency, which can be found here
Stay Safe and let's look out for one another 💜
